The Energizer brand is known for a lot of things. Most obviously batteries, and that drumming bunny in their commercials. In recent years, however, it has been associated with cellphones. French phone manufacturer Avenir Telecom has licensed the brand and is selling phones through its Energizer Mobile division. Their latest phone, the P18K Pop, is no small phone; it is a bulky 18mm thick. For comparison, the Samsung Note 9 comes in at 8.8MM.  This bulk, however, may be a worthwhile tradeoff as the P18K Pop sports an 18,000 mAh battery. I say the P18K Pop is better described as a giant battery with a cellphone built in.

The Features

Obviously, the giant battery is the most prominent feature of this phone. Energizer Mobile claims it will last for 90 hours of continuous call time and up to 50 days on standby. The good news is that they say it only takes eight hours to charge via fast charging. In addition to the battery, the P18K Pop is a fairly solid phone. The screen is a large “uninterrupted” 6.2” IPS FHD+ LCD, with no camera or button cutouts. It has 5 cameras. Housed in a pop-up enclosure, are two front-facing cameras allowing maximum screen real estate. The remaining three cameras are rear-facing cameras, 12MP, 5MP, and 2MP respectively and they work together to produce photos with good color, brightness and depth of filed. ACortex Octa-core processor, clocked at 2.0Ghz, a MediaTek chipset and 6GB of RAM live under the hood.

My Two Cents

I think this is an interesting idea, but I am skeptical if it will be widely popular. Does anybody really need a phone that lasts for days?  And while this is a solid phone, there are better options coming out this year. From my perspective, I don’t see one of these being something I own. I don’t like to carry too much with me, and my Note 9 is already pushing the limits of bulk in my pocket. I am doubtful this will be a wildly successful product, but we shall see.
